- in comparison to everything else going on in the universe, human life is relatively short. once you die- there is no eternal afterlife (lol religion xD), so therefore the claim made by this image is false. Also, when someone regrets a choice they make in life it's usually because they violated some kind of social norm, and screw worrying about that.

- I think it's all about balance.. If you live like it's your last day you won't get far in life - it's just not self-sustainable - and after 20 years you might regret it. If you live only thinking about the future you'll end up missing life. The key is to enjoy the moment and to do what you want and at the same time to do what's right, so in the future you can enjoy the moment too.

- I had a very bad car crash a few months ago where I was trapped underwater for a minute or so and during that time I was convinced I was about to die. It was the most important minute of my life. What you do with your life does not matter one bit, even if you totally change the world - unless you made at least one person happy then you have wasted your life. If you live as though each day was you last you will truly appreciate the beauty & complexity of life, when you make mistakes and lose everything it doesn't matter because you in your mind are going to die tomorrow. Worrying about the future is the biggest waste of time, effort and opportunity. You are the only one experiencing your life.

...You really believe people "only" use that as an excuse to abuse the one life they have? Try looking at the "life is short" philosophy with an open mind. Yes, people do get confused and those with a negative view on life may try drugs, alcohol, etc. to ease the pain. But others embrace the "short life" philosophy, and accomplish amazing things. Lance Armstrong, for example.
Just think about the amount of time you are given on this Earth, and realize that the fact is, life is not long. Anyone who says it is is naive. Life is beautiful, but on any historical time line, very, very short.
So go live it.

If you choose to be a bum all your life then it's probably going to be a looonng life. If you choose to be a dare devil and be super adventurous, your life might turn out to be shorter. If your doing 25 to life...it will most likely seem like your going to live forever. If your looking down the barrel of a loaded gun, no matter how old you are,
life is going to suddenly feel awful short. only the person who's life is about to end can say if life was too short or if it was too long. Odds are it was too short.

There is a such skill as long term planning, but not to realize that long term planning is comprised of millions of moments is a travesty. - Jeanne Calment. I know her life wasn't the most usual length, but imagine.. She was born in 1875. When she was 11, the first 'automobile' was built. When she was 37, she probably heard about the sinking of the Titanic. She witnessed WW1, WW2, the moment cities in Europe started using electronic lighting, Elvis, Disco, Rock, Techno.. I mean she lived to 1997! 122 years for that matter. Can you imagine how long that is!? It's a ridiculous amount of time. She went from being transported in horse drawn wagons, to motorised wagons to a modern car.. People wore hats in her childhood! And her adulthood. And the start of post-adulthood.
I'm gonna stop talking about hats now.
Life is neither long or short, it is determined by how long you live.
And how you live it.
If you have too much fun, it might be over all to quickly.
So do something very boring and you'll live forever!
