John Guillebaud, a professor of reproductive health at University College London, said that patients have described the cramping pain experienced as a result of menstruation as "almost as bad as having a heart attack."
While some may be shocked by the idea that the levels of pain many women experience due to dysmenorrhea (the fancy medical term for painful periods) reach these heights, uterus-havers worldwide couldn't even act surprised, since this isn't news to any of us. There is often a lack of understanding and research where women's health is concerned.
Never underestimate period pain women suffering.

I have no idea what a heart attack feels like, so can’t really say anything about that. But periods can be insanely painful. Almost every month I think maybe this time something is seriously wrong, maybe this time I’m actually fucking dying and should see a doctor, instead of just quietly accepting my fate. But it always turns out to be just cramps. A friend of mine mistook an appendix infection with period pains. Eventually she went to the ER and actually ended up having surgery only a couple of hours later. So yeah, it ain’t no picnic :D

I can confirm the labour part. I had my son without any pain medication and period pain somehow seemed worse. At least there were pauses inbetween contractions and once I got in to the tub I could actually fall asleep (even though it was from exhaustion). But period pains, for me at last, are continous and if that wasn't enough you feel like you're a bloodless over-emotional being trying to cope with the world. Thank God I don't have to deal with that shit anymore. Mirena ftw!
